Scottish Marine Institute needed to be able to store 1m long fragile glass storage tubes under the extreme harsh conditions on board their research vessel. The tubes need to be protected against breakage and allow the scientists to see the samples that had been collected in the tubes.
We designed a bespoke rack that provided the necessary stability and protection. The rack has a heavy base to keep it upright, an intermediate level for stability and further protection and strong columns for rigidity and further corner protection. The base was pre-drilled with dimples to suit the tube diameter to hold the base of the tubes in place. We also added extra weight to the base for increased stability in use on board the ship.
The racks went straight into regular use on board and continue to perform exactly as required by the clients brief. The client is delighted and the product will continue to store new samples for many years to come.
